During our visit to the Salt Mine, we lost S. in the middle
of the tour and it took us a little while to regain contact with him via We Chat.
Since he could not find us, S. called a taxi and went back to the hotel to wait for us. We met up at the Atrium Hotel and moved our luggage to a service apartment a little further away from the town square.

Kazimierz ( also known as the Jewish Quarter) is located south of the Krakow Old Town.
It was the centre of Jewish life in Kraków for over 500 years.
Later it was systematically destroyed during World War II.
The Polish Jewish inhabitants in the area were forcibly
relocated in 1941 by the German Nazi into the Krakow ghetto.
Many
of them later died in death camps.
During the communist years the Jewish Quarter fell into
disrepair.
In 1993, Steven Spielberg
filmed the movie “Schindler’s List” in Kazimierz which brought world wide
exposure and fame to the area.
The Jewish Quarter was rediscovered.
It has become one of Kraków’s most exciting places!
Jewish Quarter, Krakow, Poland - a vibrant and an excellent destiantion for cafe culture and night life! |
The Jewish Quarter is a popular tourist attraction, and the cultural activities hosted there help to educate Krakow's residents about Jewish cultures and history.
The streets in the Jewish Quarter are lined with cafes.
The restaurants were alive with music and artists performing in them on the night of our visit.
There are also galleries, old synagogues and historic sites.
Each summer since 1988 the popular Jewish Culture Festival has filled Kazimierz’s streets and cafes with music.
The Jewish Quarter in Krakow is one of the city’s best destinations for cafe culture and nightlife!
