Visiting a Local Chalk Factory in Kampala, Uganda

A large part of Uganda's economy is agricultural based.  The country itself  is trying to improve its economy.

Ugandans are working hard trying to create jobs for themselves and we see vendors and small businesses all over the place.

We have discovered that there is a small chalk making factory not far from where we are staying in Kampala, therefore Valerie arranged for us to visit there.

Though a small producing unit, there was a security guard on duty and we needed to clear with him first.

As soon as we entered the facility, we saw chalks in various colours laying out to dry in the sun.

The chalking making process is in fact quite simple:

1. A worker measured out the dry ingredients and put it in a bucket to be measured.

2 After measuring the exact amount, water was added to the dry ingredients.

3.After mixing the wet and dry ingredients together, the thoroughly mixed mixture was poured into a mould.

Then the chalks were poured out onto large sheets to be dried in the sun for three days. If there were rain, the metal sheets will be placed on the tray filled with chalks to protect them from the rain.

Though this chalk making factory is a small business but it does help to provide the much needed jobs for people in the community.

Good luck to the new entrepreneurs in Uganda!

We admire your courage, spirit and enthusiasm!
All the best to the rising young entrepreneurs we have met in the past couple of days in Uganda!
