A Custom Made Outfit by a Local Tailor in Kampala, Uganda

We visited some tailor shops close to where we are staying in Kampala, Uganda.
Wherever we go, we always want to support local business, especially in the developing countries. We have discovered that there are a few tailor shops close to where we are staying.

After breakfast we  decided to pay visits to these tailor shops.

We were introduced by the shop owner to the workshops located right beside storefront shops. We were surprised to see three young men working hard on their sewing machines making some custom ordered garments.

Curious of what they were doing and how they came to become tailors, we started chatting with them.

These young men were refugees from other parts of Africa.  Motivated to start a new life in Uganda, they were able to learn the skills of dressmaking. Now each is craving out an independent life and making a living as a tailor.

Trying on a custom made top at the tailor shop

I saw and tried on a white top in the shop and really liked it. Others were picking out their fabric and ordering  custom tailored outfits to be sewn and picked up in a few days.

We admire those former young refugees working so hard learning English and acquiring new skills to start new and productive lives in Uganda!

Bravo!
