Exchanging Our Canadian Dollars for Some Local Currency, Uganda

We enjoyed our breakfast on the lawn of the guest house.
I woke up this morning feeling refreshed after a good night of sleep in Uganda.
We had toast and eggs for breakfast on the lawn of the guest house. Sunny, breezy, and dry, the weather was fantastic! Being shaded under some big trees, We enjoyed our first leisure breakfast in Kampala, capital of Uganda.

Our driver drove us to town for our currency exchange.
The first thing we needed to do was changing our Canadian dollars to the local currency.
Valerie has arranged a van and a driver for the duration of our stay in Uganda so that it would be easier for us to get to the many places we are going to see.

Frederick, our driver came to take us to the currency exchange office in downtown Kampala.

The exchange bureau is located beside a casino downtown

The foreign exchange is located right beside the casino. I almost went in there by mistake.

Since there were five of us and we were doing large amounts, we were ushered into the office behind the counter.

The Uganda currency is shilling. The day we went to exchange our money, for each Canadian dollar, we received 2,600 Ugandan shillings. This was a better exchange rate than the one posted at the airport currency exchange booth.

There are several ATMs everywhere and I have learned that it ts easy to get funds using our credit card. Though I have not tried it, in some cases, the ATM accepts debit cards. The only card you can't use is American Express.

With some local currencies in our hands, my friends and I feel more confident going out and explore the city of Kampala in the next few days.
