St. Vitus Cathedral and Charles Bridge at the Prague Castle

Prague is most famous for its magnificent castle complex.

We visited the Prague Castle yesterday but missed the tour of the cathedral.

Determined to see the interior of the grand church building, we went back the next morning to revisit the place.

But to our surprise, there was a huge lineup waiting to get into the castle gate.

Due to security checks for everyone entering the castle, we waited for over 45 minutes before we could get in the castle.

When we visited the Prague Castle yesterday, we climbed the 287 steps to the top of the South Tower.

But by the time we came back down to the castle ground, the Cathedral doors were just closed and we did not see the inside of this magnificent church.

The Cathedral has been built, repaired and renovated for the past few hundred years.

The stain glass work on the windows were  beautiful!

The stain glass work tells the bible stories concerning Christ and the passion.

It was time for the changing of the guards. We were fortunate to have caught a glimpse of that ceremony.

There are a number of entrances to enter into the castle. This time we got out from another gate.

After visiting the St.Vitus Cathedral. we went for lunch in a small restaurant at the foot of the castle.

Since this was our last full day in Prague, we visited Charles Bridge as well.

There are a number of other bridges in Prague but Charles Bridge is the most famous and the oldest.

Charles Bridge was built in 1357 and it took almost fifty years to finish construction in 1402.

It is the oldest bridge still standing over the Vltava River in Prague.

Charles Bridge, a medieval style bridge, is connected to the most glorious period of Prague.

It is considered by some as the most beautiful bridge in Europe.

Walking on the busy bridge, we saw many different statues representing some significant events and legends associated with this famous bridge.

We enjoyed reading and researching the historical facts and legends about some of the statues.

One interesting legend was about how the bridge builders tried to strengthen the bridge during its construction.

The builders supposedly had achieved that by mixing raw eggs into the mortar and thus resulted in an egg shortage in the city.

Eggs were being sent to Prague from all over Czech. Some people feared that the eggs might be cracked during the transport, therefore the eggs were boiled before being sent.

We were on the Charles Bridge during the afternoon and enjoyed some music performed  by some musicians.

I imagine it would have been lovely to see the bridge at night too.

We were delighted that we visited this famous bridge when we were in Prague.
