2018 VBS in Waterloo - A Great Program for Kids & Youths

Kids loved the outdoor games at our VBS

After our leaders' training days, we were ready for the VBS program the following week in Waterloo.

We had a successful week of VBS by all account:

1. Without advertising and only through words of mouth, the camp  had the highest number of youth leaders and children attending the week long camp this year.

2. I used to oversee and plan all the programs with the youth leaders.

But this year, I was glad to share the responsibilities with J., my
co director for the camp.

He was able to work with and supervise the youth leaders therefore freeing me to do other tasks for the camp.

J. was able to deal with some unexpected issues at the camp and handled them well.

3.We implemented a new activity this year, a daily Scripture Memory Game.

Two youth leaders took up this assignment and did a super job every day without needing me to assist them at all.

The children obviously enjoyed the activity as each group went up to the stage and recited the verse in front of the whole group.

4. We continued our daily drama presentations of the bible stories at VBS every morning.

The youth leaders did a great job presenting the stories of Jesus.

The children were absolutely captivated by their leaders dramatic presentations.

The also wanted to reenact some of our plays and eagerly participated in our talent show on the last day.

5.   There were a couple of activities which the children enjoyed doing tremendously at the camp.

Rock painting was one of them.

All the children regardless of their ages liked it a lot.

Another new activity we tried was having one of the youth leaders teach a fun activity lesson to the children.

Josh learned and taught ball juggling to the kids.

We made paper balls and all the children tried juggling too.

6.  No electronic games, computers or digital devices allowed.

As for our morning arrival and  lunch hour free activities, the camp leaders did a good job too.

We implemented a no digital device rule at our VBS so kids could play other games.

Using our activity centre approach, the leaders were able to keep all the children entertained and occupied with much difficulty.

One of the rules we had at the camp was no electronic devices or cell phones.

We were glad that to see that all the children and teens enjoyed the board and groups games and interacting with one another at or VBS.

VBS allowed kids ample time to be outside enjoying nature and sports games.

It provides opportunities for teens to practise their leadership skills.

When I saw how our youth leaders have grown and developed confidence from the previous years,
this made me very happy.

Running the VBS every summer takes a lot of resources, planning and effort put forth by many people.

One of the many youth leaders volunteered her time helping us too.

I was glad that we had a lot of help every year especially 2018!

We had our celebration brunch at the Golf's restaurant at the end of VBS.  The youth leaders all shared what they had learned.

We invited the parents to our VBS Sunday service. Since we were hosting Rev. S. W. at our Toronto home, I  invited her as the speaker at the service. She gave a powerful sermon and testimony which touched everyone at the service.

Praise God!
