Miraflores - the main entrance to the Panama Canal |
I visited the Panama Canal in 2011.
This time I am here again with another group of people. For some of the team members and my husband, this was their first visit to Panama. Our host was kind enough to arrange for our team to visit the Panama Canal.
We met a group of students just finished their visit to the Panama Canal |
The biggest difference I have observed between my last visit and this time is the increase in the amount of traffic on the main highways particularly the one leading into and out of Panama City.
it took us almost three hours from where we were to get to the Panama Canal.
One thing I do find stays the same is the kindness and warm hospitality of the Panamanians we have met on our trip.
Mrs. C. was very kind spending the whole day with us helping us in whatever way she could.
Upon our arrival to the Panama Canal, we came upon a group of school band which just finished playing for a special event at the Canal.
They greeted us warmly and fought to get their picture taken. It was great seeing the big smiles and innocence of these students.

The Panama Canal was chosen as one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World.
It was the French's idea to build a canal in Panama in 1880. They started building it but it was the Americans who completed the construction of the canal between 1903 to 1914.
Panama took over the canal's operation from the Americans in December of 1999.
No sooner had we arrived at the observation platform, we were able to witness the crossing of a big vessel coming through the canal
We saw the entire process of how the water flowing through from the higher chamber into the lower chamber consequently, lowering the vessel with it at the same time.
I was glad that my husband was able to be with me and witnessed this modern world wonder in operation.
