Getting Familiar with Our Hotel's Neighbourhood - Old Town in Chiang Mia, Thailand

This was our first full day in Chinag Mia. After a good night of rest, we got up and had a better look at our first hotel in Thailand. Located right in the Old Town of Chiang Mia, this hotel was much better than we expected Too bad we only booked it for two days as we were not sure how good/ bad it would be. When we informed the front desk to extend our stay for the next few days, we found that the hotel was all booked up. Too bad! We had to look for another hotel for the rest of our stay in this city.
We enjoyed the buffet breakfast served in the hotel's dining room as there was a varity of food items. It was lovely enjoying our breakfast in a relaxing setting, sipping our tea and eating healthy food to get ready for the day ahead.
The first thing we did was exploring the neighbourhood and community around our hotel and got familiar with the area. We liked walking and the exercise. The walk from our hotel to the nearest main intersection was ony about ten minutes. During our walk, we passed by neat houses, nice gardens, though small but well looked after.
Thai people love greenery and little lawn ornaments for their garden and front yard. We saw a lot of that and I, in particular, was thrilled to see these cute little animals and decorations adorning the trees and shrubs as I am also a gardener..
We also discovered some nice cafes and stores in the area and did not pass the opportunity to try some Thai pastries. We tried a mushroom pastry made in the shape of a mushroom; we were not disappointed at all.
Not knowing the Thai language, we took sometime to find a cell phone store. Finally, we located the store and got a SIM card for our cell phone. We would be able to communicate with local hotels, book programs and activities for the next few days! RT, Chiang Mia Thailand
