Attending Church in Chiang Mia, Thailand and Witnessing a Changed Life

Regardless to where we travel, we will always look for a church to attend and worship there.

When we were in Chiang Mia, Thailand, there was no exception. Always good at finding things from Google, my husband found us a church for this Sunday. We called a cab from our hotel but it wasn't easy getting one today as this was the 4 day Mothers' Day long weekend in Thailand. People were busy going back home visiting their families.

The taxi dropped us off at the Thailand Community Church, a much bigger church than we had expected.

Church service started at 4:30p.m. and we got there right on time. With church attendance declining in many countries it was good to see this Thai church 70% filled! Hallelujah! Praise God!  We learned from the local people that 90% of Thai people are Buddhists, with only 5% being Christians and the other 5% Muslims.

It was a special worship service with the worship team leading worship and singing followed by a lady introducing a group of  pre teens who would be promoted to the Equip Group - the senior young people group at the church. It was heartwarming to see the EQUIP youth, the senior youth group, welcoming the junior one into their group and that the whole congregation was there to witness and support it, fantastic support for the young people indeed!.

During the sermon, the Pastor further invited the support and involvement of everyone in church to volunteer their time and help out in various church ministries. A good reminder to us all that we belong to the family of God and we need to bear some responsibilities to keep God's house moving in the serving and preaching ministries.

One of the best part of attending the church service was connecting with other believers at the church.

After the service, a gentleman named Mau came over and extended a warm welcome to us. My hubby was having a good conversation with him about many things as he felt welcome and connected with this church. Surprise! Mau invited us to his home for dinner with him and to meet his wife. What a nice welcome for visitors from outside of Thailand! We appreciated his kindness and hospitality and accepted it gladly! We had a fascinating discussion on how Mau came to know God and found out that he even wrote a book called From Punk to Preacher, about his conversion! What a life changing story from being a punk as Mau called himself to being a servant of God! I can't wait to read his book and learn about the power of Jesus in Mau's and our lives!
