Turning an Old Dark Room into a Beautiful Guest Room in a Don Mills House

Renovation is a process. We were not sure how long it would take as we waited for a little while for our designer and her team to renovate and transform the living room and the den in our 60 year old Don Mills house.

Our old dark family room needed to be renovated.
We wanted renovation work to be completed within a couple of months. Somehow, the work just kept being pushed back. I have hoped that the whole renovation process would be completed on time, on budget without causing a lot of stress for us.It turned out that it took more than a year and way past our budget.

The original plan was to replace the suspended ceiling with a drywall ceiling and painting and remodeling the existing wall unit.

But when the contractor was here to start the renovation, we discovered that the houses built in the early 1960's had no insulation in the walls. No wonder our room was so cold all the time.
The contractor removed the old wall and added insulation in the room.

Desiring to improve this old dark cold family room, we modified our renovation plan. The renovation project started to get bigger with all the old wood paneled walls and the wall unit removed. New ceiling, walls, entire new flooring of the room, both the interior and exterior door, as well as new pot lights were installed.

We loved our new family/ guest room

It turned out we had gutted the entire room renovated it completely. A much large project than we have expected.

This is life! Isn't it?  Sometimes we plan our lives well and thinking they will go certain way. Then something happens and we change our plan completely.

We were glad that we renovated the family room completely as we are absolutely delighted with the look and feel of our family/ guest room!
