A Week of Praise and Worship at the Calvary Pentecostal Camp, Virginia

The CPT camp has been around for 60 years!

The Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle camp has been around for sixty years!

Regular services are held throughout the year on the weekends at the CPT Virginia campground.








There are two camps, a winter one is held in February and a summer one held between the end of June to the beginning of September. During the summer, the services are held in the Tabernacle - a huge outdoor meeting place.

We are here to attend the summer camp for a week and to be recharged spiritually.

The theme this summer is Worship His Majesty.

The CPT camp welcomes visitors, Christians, pastors and church lay people from around the world

It is open to anyone who wishes to take part; people from around the world do come to this camp. Many come as far as India, and Africa to attend the services.

There are daily services, seven days a week during the summer, one in the morning and another one in the evening. Speakers have been scheduled for each day.


The first night we were here, we attended the 7:30 p.m. service with Joshua Mills, a well known pastor from Canada.

He would be the speaker for the duration of our stay at the camp.

 




 Patti Chappell, wife of a late pastor, is my favourite speaker during the teaching hour sessions right after breakfast each day.

She has many years of experience in ministry work and serving diverse people and nations. It is a joy listening to her about God's faithfulness and miracles in her ministry work!










The schedule of the campground is as follows:

7:00am     Breakfast
8:00am     Prayer
9:30am     Teaching
11:00am   Morning Service
                 Children's Ministry 5-11 & 12-18

Before each service starts there usually a singing and worship session lasting for about an hour.

 During the morning service when the adults are worshiping in the tabernacle, kids and teenagers have their own program at another venue


( We did not know about this camp until now. How I wish our sons were able to take part in camp experience like this when they were young! It is an awesome experience!

Jane Louder is the current director of the CPT camp.

Apparently, everyone working there with whom we have spoken is a volunteer. This means they receive no compensation for their work and is living by faith depending on God for their needs!

CPT camp charges no admission to the camp and their operating cost solely depends on people's donations!

The camp has been operating  like this for the past sixty years!

I found the atmosphere at the Pentecostal campground very relaxing, not uptight at all.

Very often, participants are willing to share their testimonies and give their witness as how God transform their lives.

 It is absolutely inspirational to hear God's miracles and how He loves all of us and give His most treasured son, Jesus, to die for our sins.

It has been a week of singing, praising and praying.
A refreshing change from worrying about our daily needs and chores.

We are extremely grateful that our friends from church not only introduced us to this wonderful camp but brought us here to experience it ourselves.

After having a miracle connection , I put my prayer requests in the prayer box and believing firmly that God will perform His miracles and grant me the requests! Amen!

The bell rings to wake up campers for breakfast

On the second day of our stay at the CPT camp in Virginia, we got up bright and early.

The wake up bell was rung at 6:45a.m. and if we wanted breakfast, we'd better be up!

The breakfast was served in the spacious dining hall.

As expected, the lineup was not bad at all at this early hour. We  entered the spacious dining hall and were served a full hardy hot breakfast with sausages, eggs, southern grit, cereal, fruits, juice, tea or coffee.

However, the doors to the dining hall were locked right at 7:45a.m.

 For those who came later than the posted breakfast time, they learned to be here earlier the next day.

 After breakfast, we had time to stroll around the campground before prayer time at 8a.m.

It is a beautiful 14 acre property dedicated to the service of the Lord with ample places to sit and relax.

People from around the world come to this place to worship, praise and learn about God. 

We've met very friendly people; many of whom are pastors or church laypeople.

There are lots of opportunities to fellowship and learn about ministries from other parts of the world.

It is a quiet and peaceful place with a number of buildings providing accommodations to campers.


There are quiet places where people can read their bibles, pray or reflect.

There is no cooking facility for visitors staying at this camp.

However, nutritious meals are provided for breakfast and lunch each day so that we don't have to worry about cooking or finding a place to eat.

Rather than spending time on our daily mundane chores of shopping, cooking meals and cleaning, we head to the Tabernacle after breakfast each morning.

For the next five days straight,  we will  focus on prayers, singing, God's teaching and worship.

I love this environment!

God Took Care of Our Needs at the Virginia Camp!

Day 2 – Virginia Trip

North of Richmond, Virginia, U.S. at a church retreat camp, is where we would be for the next few days.

Traffic was at a snail's pace

But getting there took much longer than we have anticipated as the traffic was very congested on our way there. 

The CPT camp celebrates its 61st year this year!

The Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle camp is sixty one years old. It started in 1954 in Virginia.

We heard so much about this church retreat from our friends who came here before and got so much spiritual blessings from this place.

There are different types of accommodations available here. Some are dormitory style with a number of people sharing a big room to rooms for couples and families with children.

We had a double room here for the duration of our stay

Though we could register before hand but we could not make reservations for a double room.

 It is  a first come, first served system.

My husband was worried that we would not be staying together in the same room.

But I know that God would prepare the best for us and that we could have a couple’s room so that things would be more convenient for us.

Our room has two beds - 1 double and 1 single bed

Praise God! He did!

Despite the lengthy traffic congestion and our arrival at the camp about three hours late, not only have we been assigned to a couple's room, but we are right beside Carl and Jessica on the main floor in the same building.

How convenient is that! The buildings and the sleeping quarters are air-conditioned too!

 We are looking forward to some quiet prayer time as well as a spiritual revival and healing for both of us. 

I would also like to do a good ppt to document this camp and to share with our congregations and other Christian friends what this  camp has to offer.

Knowledge is Power - Nutrition Information at McDonalds' in the U.S.

Day 2 – Virginia Trip – Helpful Nutrition Information at McDonalds' in the U.S.

We had a good night sleep at the motel and were up at 7:30ish in the morning. Since there was no continental breakfast at the motel. ( For the very affordable price for our motel stay at the Danville Red Roof Inn, we did not mind the no breakfast part.) 

We  had breakfast at a nearby McDonald, just a stone throw away from the motel. It was a big McDonald restaurant with a big play space for kids and a patio with comfortable movable dining tables and chairs.

There was something different about the U.S. McDonalds. 
 There are caloric counts posted beside their menu items which is something we don’t have in Canada.

 We were going to order a big breakfast which was over 1000 calories. Watching our weight  and what we eat,  we changed our mind ordering  another breakfast item that had only 700 calories instead.

The information on the food items with the amount of calories posted beside them was very helpful as we tried to make wise food choices eating in fast food restaurants during our travels.

We left McDonald’s at around 9:15 a.m. and started heading to our destination – north of Richmond, Virginia.

Traffic was slow driving out of Dansville, PA, and at some point it was grounded to a halt. Surprisingly, the motorists were very patient. 

There were no honking, no screaming or road rage behaviour displayed by any of the motorists! What a different picture we saw on TV with all the crazy and angry drivers flipping out and engaging in road rage situations!

Reason – there was a big sign posted at the beginning of the roadway -  CONGESTED TRAFFIC FOR THE NEXT 1 ½ MILE. 

AHA! This information warned drivers ahead of time of what they would encounter for the next little while in their driving therefore preparing them for the traffic congestion and the wait.

Great idea from the city to avoid some unpleasant situations and helping motorists to adjust their travel time! Thumbs up for the city of Danville, PA!

Our Trip to Virginia, U.S. A.

We  made sure our house was vacation ready before we left for our trip

Day 1 – Our Virginia Trip

It’s summer time in Canada! We are going on a driving trip!  There was excitement in the air for days in our house.  I,  especially have been yearning to be away from Toronto. We are grateful that a couple friend from the Waterloo church has invited us to join them on a vacation in the U.S., so that Y. would not have to drive.

Since our departure time from Canada was in the late afternoon when Jessica and Carl  got off from work, we had plenty of time getting our house vacation ready:  giving the flowers in the garden a really good soaking, getting rid of the leftover food in our fridge, removing all the garbage and even a fresh lawn mowing on our front yard!

We left our house and arrived at Jessica and Carl’s right on time. Jessica informed us that their decision to go on the road trip helped speed up their purchase of their family vehicle as they wanted to make sure we would be comfortable in a more spacious car. How thoughtful and considerate was that!

Our drive to the U.S. was uneventful

The drive into the States was uneventful. We crossed the Rainbow Bridge  U.S. customs at around  6:30p.m. and arrived at the Red Roof Inn in Danville, PA, a little past 11:30p.m.

A hotel stay in the U.S. during the summer  peak season could be pricy. Computer and tech savvy,  Jessica looked up and compared hotel pricing on expedia during our trip planning dinner meeting at their house a week ago. 

She found the best price for our stopover night for less than Can.$ 80.00! ( With the Canadian dollar dipped below 80 cents against the U.S. dollar. This is a pretty price motel!)

Our stay at the Red Roof Inn in Danville, Pennsylvania, was satisfactory.  It provided us with a decent clean basic motel  room for an affordable price stay for travelers, especially for Canadian tourists. No continental breakfast nor was there a phone in the motel room where we could call the front desk.

But there was wi-fi and it was easy to log on for checking our emails.
