During our recent trip to Quebec, we visited one of our most favourite places, Mont Tremblant, in the province of Quebec, a French speaking province in Canada. We used to visit Mont Tremblant annually for a few years many years ago. The Mont-Tremblant Pedestrian Village - also referred to as the Resort Village didn't exist when we were here for our skiing holiday when our children were young.
We have always love skiing on Mont-Tremblant and I wish there was something like that back then for our children as they would have enjoyed roaming around in this village free of vehicles. This time we were able to stroll leisurely to enjoy the boutiques, cafes and the outdoor squares without any traffic noise.
Mont Tremblant sits within one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world (the Laurentians). For Canadians like us living in Ontario where we hardly see any high mountains, the Mont Tremblant scenery is simply fantastic!
Though we visited Mont Tremblant numerous times, this was our first time visting it in the summer months and also the first time visiting the Tremblant Pedestrain Village. With the cobblestone, pedestrian-only streets and bright, pastel-roofed buildings, the Tremblant Village is a pretty pedestrain village and it has a distinct blend of European aesthetic, Laurentian nature, and vibrant street culture. It feels like a transplanted Alpine village from Europe set right in the heart of the Laurentian Mountains.
Ah, we came to the base of the mountain and I remembered the Cabriolet Lift, the open-air gondola running right over the colurful houses as my family and I rode it many times in freezing cold temperature while on our skiing vacations here. We would try to get on the chairlift and ski down the slope as often as we could. Then we would relax in one of those colourful Muskuoko chairs and enjoy the view. During the winter season, we needed to pay a hefty price for the chairlift ride. Luckily, for summer visitors, there is no charge for the lift rides between the lower and upper village sections for an elevated view of the village and the surrunding area.
For us, Mont Tremblant used to be a quiet place at night and there was no place to walk around after we spent a day of skiing. We would spend time at the hotel while the kids played their games or watched TV. But now the Pedestrain Village has a vibrant street life and a lively atmosphere created by street performers, patio dining, fire pits, and seasonal events that keep the village energetic day and night and the visitors entertained.
Re visiting Mont Tremblant gave us a feeling of nostalgia of years past and helped me to recall some of my fondest memories of our children when they were growing up. Our wonderful family car trip to Quebec with the Christmas carols playing on the radio while the boys were talking or arguing in the backseats. Our family was together and those were the fun time.
It also gave me a bit of feeling like stepping straight into a European mountain village — without leaving Quebec! If I ever crave for some European experience but unable to get there, visiting Mont Tremblant and Quebec will help to bring me a bit of that European feel!
