Deep Cove - One of the Most Scenic Spot in the Lower Mainland, Vancouver

Tuesday, Day 5

We got up in the morning and relaxed in the living room.

This rented house in Port Moody is a spacious one with a separate sleeping quarter on the main floor and 4 bedrooms on the second floor.

It has a added on sun room overlooking a nice quiet ravine.

Dave was at work with his spatula making scrambled eggs for everyone for breakfast.

Together with the perogies and sausages bought yesterday from the Lonsdale Quay Market, we had a delicious and nutritious brunch together.

We have never gone on a vacation with Dave and his family. This was a good opportunity for us to talk and catch up with one another.



I loved how much Dave and his grown children shared at the breakfast table and how well they were getting along.
Not everyone could enjoy such warm relationship with their children.

After our brunch, Dave and his family went to Lynn Valley for a hike while we went to Deep Cove.

A small village in North Vancouver, Deep Cove is surrounded by both waters and forests on its border.

It is a favourite shooting location for TV and film productions

We strolled along the main street enjoying the sight and sound of the shops, cafes, and restaurants.

We loved the beautiful parks, the beach and particularly, the laid back relaxed feel of a small village.

Though a small quiet village, Deep Cove receives 4000 visitors every week.

It has a small theatre and galleries.

Deep Cove, British Columbia, is a pretty small village, a nice escape for people wanting a respite from a big city for a few hours to a relaxing holiday.

Lynn Canyon Park - A Great Place for Hiking Not Far from Vancouver

 Monday, Day 4 - Lonsdale and Lynn Canyon

While visiting Canada's west coast, we stayed at Peri’s house in Vancouver for a couple of nights.  Being involved in many charities and volunteer work in both Vancouver and Toronto, Peri is a very busy lady often flying between the two cities and serving as board members on the executive committees.

She was home this morning and invited us to have breakfast with her. I was glad that we could at least spent some time chatting with one another.

Jean, another friend from Vancouver met us at Peri’s house at mid morning. We said good bye to Peri, concluding our stay with her.

Jean suggested us  to visit Lonsdale Quay, an indoor market in North Vancouver. 

It has many stores and eating places selling different kind of food. We tried some perogies; they were delicious! 

We had a Sushi lunch at the Lonsdale Quay Market 

Vancouver, a coastal city, is famous for fresh seafood. We had some fresh seafood at a Sushi place for lunch. It was scrumptious!

The weather in Vancouver for the past few days has been foggy and rainy. Today was no exception.

Seeing that the afternoon was a little drier,  we visited Lynn Canyon Park, about 40 minutes drive from where we were staying in Vancouver.

Hiking has always been one of our favourite things to do.

Good trails for hiking in the Lynn Canyon Park

Lynn Canyon Park offers 250 hectares of coastal  rainforest with scenic canyons, creeks and a  variety of local plants.

There were a number of trails with varying length and difficulty.

We chose a trail that could be completed within an hour. If we had a whole day, we could have chosen the three hour long trail.

Not long after we started  walking on our trail,

we crossed the suspension bridge suspending 50 meters above the Lynn Creek. 

The suspension bridge was a good vintage point to take some scenic pictures of the park.

We saw a nice water fall from the suspension bridge too.

This temperate rainforest includes a great variety of local plants such as 100 year old Douglas firs, western hemlock and western red cedar, moss and other young plants

Hiking on the trail, we discovered  some surprises in this forest:















First, there were some strange wooden shapes formed from old and fallen trees in the forests.

Then, out from nowhere in the forest, there was a huge boulder jet out from the ground.

Our biggest pleasant surprise was a picturesque river and beach filled with rocks of different sizes. It was incredibly beautiful!





We had so much fun jumping from one rock to the other, posing and taking pictures and enjoying the scenery.

Lynn Canyon Park, one of the largest and most popular park of Metro Vancouver,  is an excellent place to relax, hike and enjoy some quality time with loved ones.

Crabbing Rules at Ambleside Pier, British Columbia

Day 4

British Columbia is the warmest province in Canada.  It is famous for  beautiful gardens and natural beauty.


Today we visited Ambleside Park  located in west Vancouver.

Ambleside used to be a seaside village accessible by ferry service.

However, the ferry service became obsolete in 1947 when the construction of the Lions’ Gate
Bridge was completed.

The Ferry building has been turned into an art gallery.

The building, with a gabled roof, is a typical architectural example of the turn of the century. It has been designated as a heritage building.







The Ambleside Park is a picturesque area with a beautiful waterfront park.

The park has been designed to retain the quiet, tranquil small seaside village feel.

The Ambleside Pier was quiet and peaceful on the day of our visit.

Crabbing is still allowed at the pier. However, strict guidelines and rules are posted to remind crabbers to follow the rules of crabbing at the pier.

People are allowed to fish or catch crabs at the Ambleside Pier

Some of the important rules to remember are:

1.            One must have a proper crabbing license to catch crabs

2.            People cannot catch crabs an hour before and after sunset

3.            You can only catch male crabs, limited to 4 per license

4.            The crabs to be retained must be at a certain length

Though we did not have the opportunity of watching people catching crabs at the pier, we did drive up to the hills and had an excellent view of Vancouver and Ambleside!

We met up with Jean's hubby later and enjoyed an excellent dinner  catching up with them.

 A fun time was had by all!

A House Party in Port Moody, British Columbia

Day 3 - Sunday

We were invited to an open house & dinner in Port Moody, BC

We were invited to the open house and dinner at Dave’s rented house in the Vancouver area.

It took us a little longer than we had expected as we thought the venue was in Coquitlam instead of at Port Moody.

After stopping at A & W for a bite, we got to Dave’s house at around 4pm. 

The house was full of people and we were busy talking to Dave and Jord.

It took sometime for us to break the ice with Su's relatives, but the young people got along after a little while.

They were playing table and board games and having a great time.

I was glad that Dave and Sue hosted this open house so that we could get to know her side of the family better.

E. also enjoyed the game time with Jord's other cousins. It was  a good time had by all!

We dropped E. at the Hyatt and headed back to Vancouver after 10pm and were fast asleep in no time!

We had an enjoyable time meeting Sue's family at the house party.
I wish we could have gone out and spent more time with Er. over coffee or something.
